We get involved in a wide range of events such as talks at schools and amateur astronomy clubs, special trade days, star parties and observing trips. Here's a list of the things we did in 2000. • December 2000

• 9th December 2000 Wysing Arts
  Wysing Art Centre held an exhibition associated with light and astronomy, culminating in a fire sculpture based on a large model of a lunar lander. Green Witch took along a couple of telescopes and gave many people their first close-up view of the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn.
• 2nd December 2000 Astronomy for Absolute Beginners
  The fourth course by Jeffery Barham. These continue to be very popular and to be well received. Check here for details of future courses.

  November 2000

• 29th November 2000 Godmanchester Primary School
  Green Witch attended this astronomy evening with a display of telescopes and astronomy resources. Clouds prevented any observing but they cleared almost as soon as the event ended!
• Friday 24th November 2000 Sawtry Astronomical Society
  A return visit by Neil to give a talk. 'Telescopes for Amateur Astronomers'. Although the weather was cold and wet the Sawtry members provided their usual warm welcome. Anyone living in the area is recommended to join this small but friendly society.
• Wednesday 22nd November 2000 Hardwick Brownies
  Neil gave a talk on the Solar System. The Brownies acted out the movements of the Sun, Moon, Earth and inner planets to help understand how they all move. When the cloud cleared we went outside to see Jupiter through a telescope.
• Monday 13th November 2000 FSB Star Party
  The Federation of Small Business Cambridge Branch visited Green Witch for a Star Party. The weather co-operated and a large group were able to view the skies through various telescopes and binoculars.
• Saturday 4th November 2000 Wysing Arts, Bourn
  Afternoon telescope demonstration at the Wysing Art Centre. A large number of people were shown sunspots until the Sun disappeared then the telescope was turned to the Moon for further viewing.

  October 2000

• 31st October 2000 Green Witch Halloe'en Party
  A star party at the Green Witch showroom on the eve of our second birthday.
• 28th October 2000 RGO Society Inaugural Dinner
  We attended this dinner to mark the founding of the RGO Society. It was held at Jesus College, Cambridge with ex-RGO staff travelling from as far as Australia to attend.
• 28th/29th October 2000 Heavens Above Live
  Green Witch provided the Meade Stand at the first major astronomy exhibition to be held in the Midlands. It turned out to be a very successful event and is likely to be repeated next year.
• 14th October 2000 Green Witch Course for Absolute Beginners
  Another one-day course given by Jeffery Barham

  September 2000

• 30th September/1st October 2000 Whirlpool Star Party, Birr Castle, Ireland
  An excellent weekend of first-class talks, star parties, a chance to clamber over the Birr Leviathon and friendly hosts. Highly recommended; please contact us for details of next years event.
• 22nd/23rd September 2000 Equinox Star Camp
  We attended the first evening and day of Loughton Astronomy Club's Equinox Star Party near Thetford. This is an annual event which grows each year. An ideal opportunity to mix with amateurs of all levels and to try out a wide range of telescopes.

  August 2000

• Wednesday 2nd August 2000 Swaffham Prior Playgroup
  Neil took two groups of children for astronomy at their holiday club. Activities included building a scale model of the Solar System and viewing sun spots projected through a small telescope.

  July 2000

• Saturday 8th July 2000 Green Witch Trade Stand at Duxford Air Display
  Our first attendance at a Duxford Air Display; we showed and sold telescopes, binoculars and accessories.

  June 2000

• Saturday 24th June 2000 Meade Day at Green Witch
  Organised in conjunction with BC&F there was be an opportunity to see and buy the latest equipment from Meade. Experts were on hand to answer questions and provide advice.
• 23rd to 25th June 2000 PFA Ralley at Cranfield
  Nothing to do with astronomy but if you want to observe Europe's largest gathering of home-built aircraft this is the place to be. Unfortunately, we didn't make it in the end due to other commitments but we hope to be there next year.
• 16th to 18th June 2000 East of England Show
  Green Witch had a stand at the show, displaying and selling telescopes, binoculars and accessories. We had three busy days with binocular sales boyant on the day that Charlie Dimmock appeared.

  May 2000

• Saturday 27th May 2000 Leica Day at Green Witch
  An ideal opportunity to try out the telescopes and binoculars that are justifiably known as 'Simply the Best'. Also attending were Bruce Pearson, well-known for his wildlife art and Birdscape series on Channel 4, David Leggett from Wild Art Taxidermy with a fascinating display, the Raptor Foundation with live owls and much more. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Despite poor weather the day was very successful.
• Saturday 6th May 2000 Jeffrey Barham on TV
  Cauldron Club Member and Course Leader, Jeffrey Barham, appeared on BBC TV's 'Whatever You Want' and won a trip to Hawaii to visit the UK Infra-Red Telescope (UKIRT) and the 8-metre Gemini North Telescope.
• Monday 1st May 2000 Bank Holiday at Duxford Imperial War Museum
  Green Witch had a trade stand between the main hanger and the new American Exhibition Hall. Although there was no official flying display there were several interesting aircraft being put through their paces.

  April 2000

• Saturday 29th April 2000 Astronomy for Absolute Beginners
  The second Green Witch astronomy course was a repeat of the first course for absolute beginners on April 15th (see below for details) organised in response to the high demand. We were very encouraged by the positive feedback after both courses and will be organising more later in the year. There were also many requests for children's courses so we plan to organise these in the not-too-distant future. Please call us if you are interested.
• Saturday 15th April 2000 Astronomy for Absolute Beginners
  The first Green Witch astronomy course was a one-day event specifically for absolute beginners. It was given by Jeffrey Barham who is well-known locally for his entertaining and informative talks and course. The course ran from 10 to 5 and consisted of four one-hour talks interspersed with refreshments, lunch and time for informal chats. The course sold out very quickly so we organised a second one for a fortnight later.
• Wednesday 5th April 2000 Papworth Astronomy Club
  Illustrated talk by Neil - Cassegrains and Canaries.

  March 2000

• Friday 31st March 2000 Green Witch Star Party
  The weather did not co-operate on this occasion but the party still went with a swing. The Griffiths Family won the quiz, Lesley's food was appreciated by all and the talks were on bright objects in the sky, in particular the 21 'first magnitude' stars, the bright planets and Iridium flares.
• Saturday 25th March 2000 Open Day at the Institute of Astronomy
  As part of Science Week in Cambridge the IoA held an Open Day from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Green Witch were there with a display of telescopes.
• Friday 10th March 2000 Sawtry Star Party at Green Witch
  Sawtry Astronomy Club visited Green Witch for a Star Party. There were spare places for others and a total of 38 attended. Everyone appeared to have a good time and Lesley's catering went down well again.
• Wednesday 1st March 2000 Papworth Astronomy Club
  Open Evening - Green Witch provided a trade stand. Other attractions included a dramatic production, sponsored by Green Witch, given by the Physico Theatre called 'Over the Moon', videos, talks and observing with members' telescopes.

  February 2000

• Friday 4th and Saturday 5th February 2000 ASTROFEST
  Green Witch were present on the 'House of Optics' stand and demonstrated some of the exciting new Maksutov-Cassegrains and Maksutov-Newtonians from Russia. If you missed them at Astrofest why not come and see them in our showroom?
