A CCD camera is one of the most cost-effective ways of extending the capability of your telescope. Use one to record colours and details beyond the reach of the human eye. Because of their greater sensitivity CCD cameras require much shorter exposure times than photographic film. This eases the tracking requirement and produces deeper images in a shorter time.

Use filters to reduce glare or improve contrast

Filters are used to reduce glare when observing a bright Moon and to enhance contrast making fine details on planetary surfaces easier to see. Light polution reduction filters are also useful for cutting out much of the scattered background caused by street lights and security lighting. They aren't a substitute for a good dark sky but they will make a worthwhile improvement in built-up areas.
