The UK has long been a world-leader in the exploitation of CCD technology for astronomy. Some of the best CCD systems for professional astronomers were developed in the UK and are installed on British telescopes supporting front-line research.

If you are new to CCDs we recommend the MX5C and MX7C one-shot colour cameras from Starlight Xpress. They are very good value and avoid the complexity of taking separate monochrome images which have to be combined in a computer.
