Astronomy Clubs provide one of the best and cheapest ways for a beginner to learn about the subject. Here is a list of the clubs we are aware of in our immediate area. Algarve, PortugalHere are a couple of clubs in Southern Portugal you might like to try. Both offer facilities for visitors and can be used as a base for an observing holiday, or a family holiday with a bit of observing thrown in. I visited COAA in 2001 whilst staying near Albufeira. Bev and Jan extended a warm welcome and showed me round their impressive array of telescopes. I couldn't get there after dark but judging by the comments in the guest book their visitors enjoy the astronomy and many return year after year.
